Agencies Issue Additional FAQs on Summary of Benefits and Coverage


On May 11, 2012, the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Teasury (the agencies) issued frequently asked questons (FAQs) regarding the Summary of Benefits and Coverage requirements (SBCs) under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Affordable Care Act). This set of FAQs is the ninth in a series issued by the agencies and the second to address SBCs. These FAQs generally provide additional flexibility for group health plans struggling with the detailed SBC content and distribution requirements. Group health plans are required to provide SBCs as of the first open enrollment period or plan year beginning on or after September 23, 2012.
