Aon Hewitt Submits Comments on Women's Preventive Services

On September 30, 2011, Aon Hewitt submitted comments to the Department of Labor (DOL), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) regarding the recent guidance on women's preventive services required to be provided by non-grandfathered group health plans as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Affordable Care Act). The amendment on this topic to the interim final rules for group health plans and health insurance issuers relating to the coverage of preventive services under the Affordable Care Act were published in the Federal Registeron August 3, 2011. A non-grandfathered group health plan will be required to provide coverage with respect to the HRSA-supported Women’s Preventive Services: Required Health Plan Coverage Guidelines in the first plan year that begins on or after August 1, 2012.

In the letter, Aon Hewitt's comments focus on employers, (i.e., sponsors of self-insured plans) rather than insurers. The comments focus primarily on the actual guidelines supported by the HHS/HRSA, specifically contraceptive methods and counseling.
