2013 Global Pension Risk Report

Timely information regarding pension plan practices is critical to plan oversight and management. Aon Hewitt's 2013 Global Pension Risk Survey U.S. Findings gathers plan sponsors’ thoughts on pension risk and determines their long-term objectives for their pension plans. The survey results include responses from 137 defined benefit plan sponsors from a variety of industries, and is the fourth pension risk survey since 2008.

Survey respondents indicated that 2013 was more of a “status quo” year compared to other survey years. Three key themes emerged from the survey:

  1. Most plan sponsors expect to accomplish de-risking objectives within
    the next 10 years.
  2. Dynamic investment policies continue to gain acceptance.
  3. A majority of plan sponsors do not expect the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (“MAP-21”) pension legislation will have a significant impact on their funding or investment strategies.
