2015 Universe Benchmarks

Defined contribution (DC) plans have increasingly been the backbone of many Americans’ retirement savings. By some estimates, the number of participants in DC plans is nearing 100 million with assets totaling roughly $5 trillion.

In fact, over 75% of companies report that their DC offering serves as their primary retirement program. Given the significance of DC programs, it is critical to have a clear understanding of how participants are interacting with their employer sponsored plans.

This is why we are pleased to present the 2015 Universe Benchmarks Report, Aon Hewitt’s annual research publication that started in 2002 to track the savings and investing behaviors of roughly 3.5 million eligible employees across approximately 140 plans.

Overall, this year’s report shows that participant accounts in DC plans are improving, but despite these advances, there are some participant actions that give cause for concern.
