Aon Broker Selected to Lead Insurance Associations Regional Committee

Manchester, 25 May 2006 – Aon’s accomplished insurance broker, Jane Kielty, has been elected to head up the British Insurance Brokers Association’s (BIBA) Greater Manchester and West Pennine regional committee which represents over 120 member firms.

As Chairman, Ms Kielty will be working to promote the interests of insurance brokers in the region through chairing monthly committee meetings and organising networking and advisory events. For example, as the national BIBA conference was held in Brighton, the Manchester and Merseyside BIBA committees have instigated a more accessible event at Haydock Park, Cheshire on 13 June whereby smaller brokers can speak to insurance scheme providers about placing policies for clients’ more specialist risks.

Ms Kielty’s new position comes six months after joining Aon Limited, a leading broker and risk management consultant, as Director of Client Management at just 29 years old. Ms Kielty is responsible for a team of Client Managers and Directors, and for overseeing and delivering service excellence for Aon’s commercial clients in Manchester. Ms Kielty has experience across a wide range of industry sectors from manufacturing, retail and aviation to sport, entertainment and the public sector.

Prior to joining Aon, Ms Kielty managed business development and sales activity in the North West for insurance broker Marsh where she worked for six years. During this time, she oversaw the risk and insurance services provided to some of the world’s largest companies, worked on global board level projects and designed and implemented training programmes for Marsh colleagues.

Achievements of Ms Kielty
  • Awarded the prestigious BIBA’s Young Broker of the Year Award and was a finalist in the British Insurance Awards
  • Mentored by Marsh’s European President and CEO, Bruce Carnegie-Brown
  • Led an award winning community programme for disadvantaged children
  • Represented her company at the European Women of Achievement Awards

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Kielty said: “One of my key goals as BIBA Chairman for the regional group is to promote the benefits of working in insurance.  It’s a dynamic and rewarding industry but is often overlooked as a career choice despite being a professional, well paid industry with a clear career path for ambitious employees. Working at Aon has enabled me to share the success stories and challenges of a global broker and in turn help smaller intermediaries to run a healthy business and improve service to their clients in the region.”

Max Taylor, BIBA Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Aon UK, added:  "I am delighted to welcome a member of the Aon team to the chair of the Greater Manchester committee.  Jane will bring a wealth of market knowledge to the region and I am certain she will prove to be a very strong leader of the committee."
