LONDON, 26 May 2006 – Not content with ensuring compliance with today’s mountain of regulatory requirements, Aon Limited’s compliance team will also be attempting to conquer the Three Peaks Challenge on 9 June to raise over £5000 for charity.

The team of 10 has been training since December 2005 to complete the challenge and raise money for Shelter, Medecins Sans Frontieres and Cri du Chat. The lesser known charity, Cri du Chat, is run by a member of the compliance team whose daughter suffers from this genetic disorder which causes mental handicap.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in England (Scafell Pike 978m), Scotland (Ben Nevis 1344m) and Wales (Mount Snowdon 1085m) whilst endeavouring to complete all three in just 24 hours. Apart from scaling each of the mountains, it will require a support team to transport the walkers and equipment from one mountain to the next over a distance of approximately 500 miles in the plush minibus kindly donated by Europcar UK.

Chris Regnart, project manager for Aon’s compliance team, said: “Our six months of hard slog are going to pay off once we’ve cracked this challenge and raised crucial funds for our worthy charities. We can donate even more now that the wonderful people at Europcar UK have let us have a minibus for free as this has really cut down on our expenses.  We’re hoping to drum up even more support from the insurance industry before we set off on 9 June.”

About Cri du Chat

Cri du Chat Syndrome ("Cry of the cat" in French) is a genetic disorder caused by the loss or misplacement of genetic material from the fifth chromosome. It was first identified in 1963 by Professor Lejeune, who also identified the genetic cause of Downs Syndrome. He described the syndrome after the sound that many of the babies and young children make when crying. This cry, along with some of the other notable features, is so characteristic of the syndrome that a doctor can usually identify the condition before a chromosome analysis has taken place.
