Aon’s specialists have been working closely with the UK wine industry and the insurance market to produce a unique policy, protecting your product throughout its lifecycle.
For each of the UK’s 350 vineyards, commercial success stems from the condition of the grape, which could be affected by a host of risks ranging from contamination by an aircraft crop sprayer to damage from windstorms to malicious damage. The health of each vine is crucial to your vineyard’s income.
Until now there has never been a specialist policy designed to cover your needs, the industry having to make do with a mix and match of established farming policies along with stock insurance and sometimes a goods in transit policy thrown in.
With our policy, the insurer will pay for the vines to be replanted in the event of damage. They will also cover the sale price of the wine that the damaged vines would have produced.
From grape to glass
Our new policy provides protection for the grapes while they are still growing on the vine, and goes on to cover you through the harvesting, processing, fermenting and bottling stages. Furthermore, it goes on to provide protection whilst the wine is aged, all the way through to final distribution to your customers’ premises.
The policy includes:
- Vine: fire, lightning, aircraft (including contamination from a crop spraying aircraft), explosion, malicious damage and even hail
- Storage: including cover against theft
- Distribution: within and beyond the UK
- Duty: if goods are lost or damaged, HM Customs duty and tax may still be payable, which is recoverable under this policy
