Securitised Credit and Regulatory Capital

Regulatory changes post the financial crisis have increased pressure on the banking sector to de-lever their balance sheets. Securitised credit such as CLOs, which allow banks to reduce their credit risk and thus frees up capital, have seen a pick-up in issuance as a result. A less well covered area of the securitisation market, bank capital relief, has also emerged as an alternative solution for banks’ to achieve their regulatory capital requirements without having to sell assets. In this session we will explore the attractions of both strategies for institutional investors.
