Aon strengthens sports offering through new hire

Sydney, 23 January, 2017 - Aon has appointed David Lamb as its Head of Sport, a newly created role within the Aon Risk Solutions Affinity team. Mr Lamb's role forms part of a dedicated strategy to bolster Aon's sports capabilities in Australia.

With over 30 years' financial services, risk management and sport experience, Mr Lamb will work with a team of specialist sports administrators to build a suite of capabilities that meet the specific challenges faced by Australian sporting clients.

"Australians love sport and have some of the highest participation rates in the world, yet the current array of sports services in the Australian broker market is underwhelming.

"In hiring David, we're committing to making Aon's global sports expertise available to the Australian market and delivering a better deal for sports clients," said Lambros Lambrou, Chief Executive Officer, Aon Risk Solutions Australia.

The sports market is highly specialised, with individual requirements demanding specific forms of insurance and wealth management. Globally, Aon works with its clients to devise tailor-made and innovative solutions across a broad range of sports, covering professional and amateur sportspeople, clubs, associations, promoters, advertisers, marketers, sponsors, production companies and leisure and entertainment parks.

"David is an industry veteran, having previously worked with American Re and AIG, and most recently as CEO of Sportscover and a Director at Vicsport. When you add this professional experience to his lifelong achievements as an athlete, coach, umpire and administrator in sport, you can understand why we are delighted to secure David's expertise," Mr Lambrou added.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Lamb said he was looking forward to leading Aon to the forefront of the sports space.

"Having spent the last four and half years running a specialist sports insurer, I know how insurers think and operate in this segment. At the same time, after three years as a board member at Vicsport, I understand the challenges facing both big and small sports organisations in this country, including funding, governance and participation.

"With Aon's global market-leading sports capabilities, I look forward to leading the  team to deliver and refine our specialised sports insurance capabilities," he said.

Mr Lamb commenced his role in January 2017. He will report to David Cole, Head of Affinity at Aon Risk Solutions Australia, and will be based in Aon's Melbourne offices.
