Aon marks Empower Results Day for Communities with the Beacon Foundation and the Australian Women’s Sevens

Sydney, 1 June, 2017 – To celebrate Aon’s Empower Results Day for Communities on June 7, the Aon Charitable Foundation (ACF) has joined forces with charity partner, the Beacon Foundation, to host a rugby clinic this morning at South Sydney High School featuring players from the Australian Women’s Sevens team.

The clinic saw Tiana Penitani, an alumnus of the school, Georgina Friedrichs and Demi Hayes, go head to head with Year 8 students in a friendly game of Viva7s, a non-contact form of social rugby.

A Q&A and a photo signing session between the Women’s Sevens players and students also took place.

Empower Results Day for Communities is Aon’s annual day of volunteering. Staff are encouraged to spend a day out of the office to volunteer with a local charity.

This year, 800 staff members have already registered to volunteer with charity and community organisations across Australia with activities taking place from May to July.

“In partnering with Beacon and hosting this school event today, we are living Aon’s values around creating opportunities for positive social impact,” said Fiona Norris, Manager, ACF.

“It was such a wonderful opportunity to introduce the students to members of the Australian Women’s Sevens team, who can act as role models and inspire them to pursue their ambitions – in or out of the sporting world.”

Aon’s charity partnership with the Beacon Foundation supports the mentorship and guidance of students from lower socio-economic backgrounds in the transition from education to working life. This is done through mentorship programs and volunteering efforts.

“Our work with the ACF has already seen students transform through support and career advice from Aon staff,” said Scott Harris, CEO & Director, Beacon Foundation.

“Today’s event presents the unique opportunity for first hand engagement between our students and professional athletes with a great story to tell. This wouldn’t have been possible without our relationship with Aon and their partnership with the ARU.”

Aon is the official Risk Partner of the ARU and official sponsors of the Australian Women’s Sevens team. They also sponsor the Women’s Aon University Sevens Series and the Women’s Sevens Youth Pathways.
