The Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE) of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently issued a document entitled “Cyber Security and Resiliency Observations,” which is the latest in a long-line of notable regulatory agency publications, guidance, and activity related to cyber security, risk, and threats impacting the market.
Not a Formal Rule or Law, but Worth Considering
It would probably be hard to argue with the notion that any time that a division of the SEC publishes a report or guidance on matters related to cyber risk, threats, and/or controls, that it is important for industry leaders, executives, practitioners, risk managers, and regulated enterprises on a whole to take note, digest, and consider it. With that said, let’s talk about this latest publication from the OCIE, and what it might mean across related industries today.
