Hurricane Laura

Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 storm near Cameron, Louisiana on August 27, 2020 with a maximum wind speed of 150 mph (240 kph) after tying the record for the fastest intensification rate in the Gulf of Mexico during a 24-hour period. This tied as the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana since 1856. Total economic and insured losses were expected to reach into the billions of dollars (USD). The portion covered by public and private insurance entities also resulted in a multibillion-dollar payout.
