Nationwide PCS loss estimates for 2022 in total were $81.9 billion, making 2022 the second costliest year for insured loss in the U.S. since 2005, behind only 2017 ($98.5 billion [trended]). The 2022 loss level is well above the long-term average of $22.1 billion from 1950-2021, the 2007-2021 average of $41.5 billion and the 2017-2021 average of $68.1 billion. PCS recognized 63 events in 2022, which is the fourth consecutive year of at least 60 events.
