Responsibilities

As the US Renewables Practice Leader, Carol provides risk and insurance advisory services to renewable energy clients, which include in-depth contract review, balancing of risk transfer, developing bespoke insurance solutions for the renewables industry, and providing training to clients re: the nuances of risk transfer and insurance. Carol led Aon’s insurance placement efforts for the first, commercial-scale US offshore wind project and led the insurance placement efforts for a $900M hydroelectric project. She currently leads the risk advisory and insurance efforts on 12 offshore wind projects and multiple onshore renewables projects; assembled a team of subject-matter experts in offshore and marine liability to supplement Aon’s offshore wind team. She also acts as a thought leader on emerging issues affecting the renewable energy industry. Leveraging her legal, claims and underwriting experience, Carol provides holistic viewpoint of project development and operational risks to provide a best-in-class risk and insurance advisory services.

Experience

Prior to joining Aon, Carol managed an E&S underwriting and a multi-national underwriting division within two major insurance carriers. In those roles, Carol collaborated with various internal and external partners to devise comprehensive insurance programs for unique risks. Prior to underwriting, Carol spent 8+ years managing a team of complex claims professionals. She began her career as a litigator representing a large multi-national agricultural company in their toxic tort and ground water contamination claims; defending 3rd-party lawsuits against insureds; and providing insurance coverage advice to insurance carriers.

Expertise

With specializations in risk identification/mitigation and insurance coverage, Carol partners with clients to create risk management programs which include insurance and non-insurance solutions for the renewable energy industry. Carol’s recent project engagements:

  • Numerous U.S offshore wind projects
  • Decommissioning of 4 hydroelectric dams
  • A hydroelectric transmission line crossing multiple state lines
  • Multiple solar and onshore wind construction and operations projects
  • A secondary market transaction involving a desalination plant

Education

Carol earned her MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and her Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School. She holds her CPCU, AIC and CRIS designations.
