A professional association for those working within the reward and employee benefits space has been set up by a former editor of an HR publication.
According to Workplace Savings & Benefits, the Reward and Employee Benefits Association (REBA), is the UK’s first dedicated membership association for employees in that particular field and aims to encourage sharing best practice and information within the sector.
Matt Duffy, Head of Online Consultancy at Aon Employee Benefits said: “For a long time, there have been no comparable associations within HR. REBA’s founders have now set out to establish a long overdue credible body who have been specifically set up to create a forum to represent, provide support and share best practice among reward and benefits professionals”.
Currently, steering group meetings are being arranged for later in the year to discuss the development of the association which could involve government lobbying on behalf of the industry.
Debi O’Donovan, founder of REBA and former editor of Employee Benefits Magazine commented: “After talking to many people across the reward and employee benefits market in early 2015, it became clear that there was a need for a member-led association".
Its first official event, REBA Founders’ Day, of which Aon was one of the sponsoring partners, was attended by over 60 reward and employee benefits directors from big name companies including Sky, TUI Travel and Capital One.
Duffy said: “The founders’ day in London was a real gathering of the who’s who of the Reward and Benefit industry. Aon were honoured to be invited to be a headline sponsor, hosting three roundtable discussions throughout the day, to hear what the industry’s thought leaders were tackling in their current roles.” He added: “With REBA’s new presence in the industry, its collective voice of individual strong opinions will be a force to be reckoned with.”
