Fundamentals of insurance

Fundamentals of insurance is an ideal introduction to insurance for individuals who have recently become involved in their business' insurance programme or are looking to refresh their knowledge.

Aon's technical training team will provide an overview of the core principles of insurance and how the market operates followed by a review of the main policies available and their operation together with an explanation of key terms and concepts.

Some areas covered:

  • What is insurance for?
  • The insurance market, the role of the broker
  • Utmost good faith, material facts and duty of disclosure
  • Insurable interest, proof of loss, proximate cause, indemnity, subrogation
  • Risk, hazard and risk management
  • Property damage and business interruption
  • What is the definition of building, contents and stock?
  • Policy cover, important exclusions and extensions
  • Implications of a property loss
  • Fixing the sum insured

Guests will leave the session with a greater understanding of insurance to apply to their day-to-day dealings with insurers and brokers.

The seminar is free of charge and will begin with tea, coffee and bacon rolls at 8:30am through to 12:00pm, followed by a buffet lunch.
