Why did you join Aon’s graduate programme?
The way Aon has made an impact in the financial services domain using innovative technologies was one of the major reasons why I applied to Aon (and also because it was the title sponsor of my favourite football club!). My outlook toward joining this graduate programme was to get exposure to the multiple sectors of a business, develop greater knowledge of the industry and gain a wider skill set. Moreover, given my master’s degree in computing, this job role closely aligned with what I was looking for. As a recent graduate, I believe Aon did an excellent job of integrating early talents into their work culture through this graduate programme.
What did you enjoy most about the Aon graduate programme?
From day one of the graduate programme, I felt like I was a part of something bigger. Each training phase was meticulously planned, with exposure to work on a graduate project. This made me competent with the skills required to excel in this role. During my time on this programme, I’ve been introduced to people with varied experiences, and it has helped in building up my confidence.
It is the connections I have built through this program, both with trainers and fellow Aon colleagues, that have made it such a memorable experience and motivated me to achieve success. Moreover, I have multiple opportunities to learn in a collaborative, innovative and challenging environment, which has eventually advanced me into solving greater business problems and brought me closer to my desired career path. It has been an amazing journey so far, learning a lot in a fast-paced environment.
How you would describe the culture at Aon?
The culture at Aon is closely tied to the organization's mission. We work in a fast-paced, flexible and creative environment. The people I met here are personable; they don't take themselves too seriously, take responsibility for their mistakes or oversights and give others credit for a job well done or a helping hand. Being a part of this supportive and empowered culture, I am able to maintain a healthy work-life balance as well.
What’s next for you?
I am currently working with the Enterprise Portfolio Management team as a portfolio data analyst, which is a part of the Office of the CEO team and includes programme managers, scrum masters and portfolio analysts. As a team, we are responsible for the design and implementation of portfolio, programme and project delivery structures across the Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics (ACIA).
I know this offers me a good career path and I'd like to gain more independence in developing, structuring and optimizing my knowledge in data analysis. Alongside growing my skills from a technical standpoint, I'd like to have a chance to learn more about leadership and management skills in the future.
