Time to Take Some Risks

Dear Reader,

It gives us great pleasure to present to you the 13th edition of our Total Rewards Quarterly.

The last quarter has been a very promising one for businesses in India and employment and pay data that we track has shown a very distinct sense of optimism for the country. As most of us now get busy with the planning cycles for FY 15 our attempt through this edition of the quarterly is to address some of the questions that this rapidly changing landscape is presenting.

In line with India's increasing proximity with Japan and the rapid changes that the country is going through, we wanted to bring to you a discussion with one of our foremost experts on Japan to understand the existing landscape and the learnings that we can derive from the resurgence in the economy. One area where our economies are very different is definitely inflation and a lot of our discussion on salary increases has been driven on that aspect and in this edition we are bringing together some of our perspectives on how we see inflation impacting salary changes. In continuation with our focus on bringing forth industry specific perspectives, we have covered two rapidly transforming industries - oil & gas and banking captives - both prominent contributors to GDP and employment in India.

And finally, many of you joined us for our Rewards Conference earlier this year and for those who didn't we present some vignettes from the conference. It was, as always, a power packed day with prominent speakers from a range of industries both in India as well as the region. We spent some time with a few of our speakers post the conference, and we bring to you in this feature some very interesting discussions with them.

We are trying to improve our electronic presence and soon you will have this quarterly with you on your handheld and other devices. But before I sign off, on behalf of the entire team at Aon Hewitt we hope you learn from and enjoy this edition of the quarterly. Do let us know your feedback and comments on how we can make this even more interesting for you. Wishing you the best for the festive season ahead and a Happy New Year!
