Aon Hewitt LEADeR® assessment accelerates development of emerging leaders


This client had two robust programs in place designed to accelerate the development of leaders early in their career. Their first program focused on preparing high performing individual contributors for front-line leadership roles and their second program focused on preparing current front-line leaders for mid-level leadership roles.

The client was looking for a new partner to provide multi-rater and leadership readiness assessment services as well as coaching for the employees in both programs.

While they had worked with other vendors this client was looking for a new partner who could deliver services with exceptional flexibility, efficiency, and timeliness. In addition, the client was interested in including additional assessments that would better measure demonstrated behavior.

Based on a demonstration of Aon Hewitt’s LEADeR simulation a decision was made to pilot test a new process using Aon Hewitt’s services. The uniqueness of the simulation and the ability to use it for the purposes of leadership development, along with several other pieces in the LEADeR integrated toolkit, soundly resonated with the client’s leadership goals.


Aon Hewitt provided fully virtual, client competency-based assessments tailored to each of the client’s leadership programs. In accordance with the client’s needs, the assessment and feedback solutions expressly focused on preparing employees to move one level beyond their current role.

The suite of assessment and feedback tools designed for the individual contributor to front-line leader role included:

  • Developmental feedback reports
  • Group webcam session on how to use assessment results

  • Emerging LEADeR Web-Based Simulation, including two role plays
  • Comprehensive, integrated reports
  • One hour of individual feedback and development coaching session


Aon Hewitt successfully rolled out the front-line assessment process to 100 participants entry –level participants and over 20 mid-level assessment participants.

Aon Hewitt worked in close partnership with the client to address their specific needs and make process modifications as needed. The client expressed great appreciation for the flexibility and responsiveness exhibited by the Aon Hewitt team –in terms of tool adjustments as well as assessment scheduling and availability for feedback and coaching. The ability to implement the assessments virtually with superior measurement, and deliver rapid turnaround on feedback reports were also key to the client’s satisfaction with these leadership solutions. The client has extended their contract and discussion is underway for creating similar processes for higher levels of leadership.
