My name is Francesca Green, I am an Economics Graduate from University of Leicester and am from Essex. I came to join the internship scheme this year because I did an internship last year with Aon and was able to re-join this year but relocated from the St Albans office to the London office (not that that matters now given it is all online). Some fun facts about me include that I love music and musical theatre, I also enjoy creating things in my spare time, such as videos and I would love to get more into sewing but our machine is broken at the moment! I love to travel and also do sports such as snowboarding and netball. I started lacrosse at university which was so fun and unsurprisingly quite hard!
The internship so far has been so much fun, everyone is so friendly and outgoing and I appreciate it so much given how hard it is to reach out online when we haven’t met in person. I wear hearing aids and have done since I was 4, this meant that going into the virtual internship I was particularly worried about the struggles this might bring. I tend to use lip reading as one of my sources of understanding people and so the concept of it all being over the phone (which has its own problems with hearing) was quite worrying. However, since I have joined people have made an effort to be on camera which is not only very personable but also extremely helpful for me! When I get confused and need something repeated or need to follow up on things everyone is so happy to do so. When the headphones I was initially provided with were found to be not suitable with my hearing aids, Aon went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. This has really stood out to me that at Aon people care about their colleagues which is something I appreciate and am happy to be a part of. It is also great to know that they have a group called Workability for people like myself. It shows how hard Aon work with diversity.
Although being online is so entirely different to being in the office, not being able to sit down and speak to someone over coffee has been replaced with an online coffee roulette where we get randomly assigned someone from our team to reach out to that week. Socials at the pub have been replaced with online pub quizzes and it all seems to be really well worked out. I am so happy to be working with Aon for the summer and can’t wait to see what more opportunities arise with them.
