LONDON, 24 September 2025 – Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today released the results of its UK Benefits and Trends Survey 2025, which revealed a rise in the adoption of online benefits platforms by UK employers. The findings highlight a broader trend of organisations increasingly leveraging technology to enhance employee engagement.
Aon’s UK Benefits and Trends Survey 2025 was completed in the spring of this year and surveyed 240 UK professionals in human resources, reward, compensation and benefits roles at companies of various sizes and industries.
The survey showed a clear trend towards providing a digital employee experience, with 50 percent of its respondents already using an online benefits platform, with an additional 21 percent indicating that they planned to implement one within the next three years. The remaining respondents either had no plans to introduce an online flexible benefits platform (19 percent) or said they provided benefit flexibility without using a platform (10 percent).
Further highlights from the survey included:
- A growing majority of organisations recognise the need to adapt benefits strategies to meet the needs of multiple generations, with 71 percent of respondents expecting to change benefits for future generations.
- A shift in employee expectations was reported by 89 percent of respondents, with work-life balance (90 percent) and flexible working hours (87 percent) remaining the top priorities. Better awareness and handling of mental health issues remain a high priority, cited by 74 percent of respondents. Meanwhile the focus on diversity, equity and inclusion and environmental, social and governance issues has slightly declined since the previous survey in 2022, with 56 percent and 41 percent of respondents identifying them as priorities respectively.
- There was a notable change in the priorities for offering online benefits since the last report in 2022, with ‘recruiting new talent’ and ‘cost management’ now taking precedence, compared to ‘employee retention’ in 2022.
Terry Gostelow, principal strategy consultant in health and benefits at Aon, said:
“UK employers are recognising that they need to review their strategies and be innovative if they are to remain competitive in retaining present employees and attracting future ones.
“Our survey makes it clear that employers are increasingly aware of the changing expectations of employees, particularly regarding the need for a digital employee experience, personalised benefits and flexibility across work practices. This shift is indicative of a broader trend where businesses are understanding the value of their people as their greatest asset.
“The data suggests that employers are increasingly identifying that they have to evolve their benefit offerings to cater to a diverse and multi-generational talent pool - and that technology offers them the opportunity to do so. Employees’ expectations have changed and while in the past it might have been more complex to address their needs, now - by leveraging data and analytics, strategic investment, and integrated solutions - employers can effectively attract, retain, and empower their entire workforce.”
