Triggers During 2012

Over the past 12 months we have seen a continued increase in the number of Flight Plans and Trigger strategies in place for UK Defined Benefit Pension Schemes, coupled with a relatively quiet time for actually hitting triggers. Based on a recent survey of around 80 schemes with triggers, the document below looks at what has been happening over the last year, and our views on the key actions being taken over the next year.

The survey covered a range of scheme sizes, from over £10bn to under £10m. This perhaps reflects the relative ease of putting in place Flight Plans and Triggers (ie costs are not prohibitive even for the smaller schemes) coupled with the benefits they bring to schemes of all sizes.
