Before January 2020, I had big plans for the winter break in the middle of my master’s course. After graduating from Oxford in Summer 2019, I had gone straight to Suzhou, China to start a master’s in Business Analytics. During the first semester, I had already managed to see many of the main sights in China, such as the Great Wall and the Terracotta army. But as the term came to an end, I was looking forward to spending the break immersing myself more in Chinese culture as well as travelling to other less well-known parts of the region. However, when Covid-19 struck, all the international students were sent home for the holidays - this was incredibly disappointing. However, the silver lining was that I was able to attend an assessment centre for Aon’s summer internship, and here I am!
As news came that my course was moving online, and that I would have to spend the rest of my ‘year in China’ in England, I was of course disappointed. I was further disappointed, but not at all surprised, when Aon said the internship was also going to be online, rather than in their London offices. However, as I heard from many of my friends that their internships at other companies had been cancelled, I realised I was actually one of the lucky ones.
Aon has gone above and beyond to ensure that the internship remains an incredibly valuable opportunity. They have created a perfect mix of client work, intern project work, training and personal development, plus lots of ideas to make it fun too. I have really enjoyed my first few weeks at Aon and can’t wait to continue my journey here.
