Top Thirteen Best Employers in Australia and New Zealand revealed

SYDNEY, 22 July 2019 – Aon (NYSE:AON), the leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions, and Kincentric, formerly a part of Aon and now a Spencer Stuart business with decades of expertise in employee engagement, people strategy, organisational culture, leadership assessment and development and HR advisory services, has announced its Best Employers 2019, identifying the top employers in Australia and New Zealand. This year, 13 organisations earned Best Employer recognition out of a total of 89 that participated in the program’s employee engagement survey.

Moving forward, the Best Employer program will be offered by Kincentric following Spencer Stuart’s acquisition of these businesses from Aon.

The 2019 results reveal that this year’s top performers succeed in four key areas: employee engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent focus.

In its 19th year, the Aon Best Employers program is Australia and New Zealand’s leading accreditation and research program, which measures trends and behaviours across people practices within leading organisations.

The Aon Best Employers certification compares organisations across Australia and New Zealand to identify those that strive to create sustainable competitive advantage through their people and become extraordinary employers. The certification has resulted from more than 50 years of experience in employee research and a robust global database.

Organisations in healthcare, transport and retail services were the leading sectors identified as Aon Best Employers.

Survey results showed that people who worked at Best Employers spoke particularly positively about their workplace, consistently saying that not only do they intend to stay within the company, but they also feel motivated to exert extra effort in their work. These employees are nearly twice as engaged than employees at other organisations.

Stephen Hickey, Head of Culture & Employee Engagement, Asia Pacific & Middle East at Kincentric said: “Best Employers excel in navigating the most pressing people-related issues confronting organisations today. They are building highly agile and adaptive workforces that are more likely to embrace change, innovate and meet the evolving needs of their customers.”

Organisational agility has proven to have a significant impact on employee engagement, retention and the bottom line, with two-thirds of employees at Best Employers reporting effective collaboration between departments compared to only 50 percent in other organisations.

Aon Best Employers exceed other organisations when it comes to leadership, with leadership teams identified as deeply connected with their employees, driving engagement and communicating a clear vision while exerted strong personal values. Leaders are perceived to be more effective when compared to other organisations, with two-thirds of employees reporting that leaders provide a clear direction for the future compared to half of the employees in other organisations.

Talent focus is another critical factor differentiating Best Employers from other organisations, with employees stating that attracting and retaining great talent while focusing on the potential of employees was core to how these companies approached people strategies. Twenty-three per cent more employees felt connected to the organisations’ mission and values when compared to other organisations.

“Along with highly engaging leadership and an intense focus on talent management, Best Employers deliver to their people an experience that motivates them to contribute discretionary effort to the purpose and strategy of their organisations. This helps Best Employers deliver exceptional business results,” Hickey added.

Data collected over the past 18 years shows that Aon Best Employers financially outperform their counterparts, with 86 percent higher sales growth compared to average companies and 71 percent higher operating income growth.
