Aon has announced the top ranked risks for Australian organisations with the launch of the 2021 Global Risk Management Survey, which gathers input from thoundsands of risk managers across 60 countries/territories and 16 industries every two years to identify key risks and challenges their organisations are facing.

Client update - Australian COVID-19 related business interruption losses: Update on Test Case 1 and Star Casino litigation
As we have reported in previous client updates, 2021 will be a busy year for the courts in determining whether business interruption losses relating to COVID-19 are covered under Australian business interruption insurance policies. In June 2021, the High Court denied the insurers’ application for special leave to appeal. The High Court’s decision means that insurers cannot rely on references to the Quarantine Act in policy exclusions as meaning the Biosecurity Act to exclude claims in policies written in the same terms as the policies in Test Case 1.

Stagnant salaries at the top end of town as remuneration stalls - and falls: Board remuneration report released
Released today, the Aon and Governance Institute of Australia Board and Executive Remuneration Report 2021 found that fewer CEOs received increases in fixed remuneration in the last 12 months (25%, down from 53% the previous year) and for those that did receive a pay rise, the increase was smaller (1.4% pay increase, down from 2% the previous year).

Client update - Australian business interruption test cases and claims update for COVID-19 related loss
The question of whether business interruption coverage for loss relating to COVID-19 is covered under Australian insurance policies is a live issue that is currently being tested in a number of Australian court proceedings, including two test cases. The test cases are intended to provide policyholders and the insurance industry with clearer direction and guidance required for coverage decisions to be made in response to these claims.

Strengthening response to weather risk in Australia: agreement announced
Aon has announced a partnership agreement with Catalyst Technologies, helping to strengthen the response to weather climate risk in Australia. Aon will be able to offer clients the opportunity to access a threat intelligence and critical event management platform - iluminr, developed by Catalyst Technologies, which allows organisations to protect its people and business operations by providing early warning alerts, enabling leaders to proactively communicate and resolve emerging climate related threats with speed.

New official data reveals the severe impact COVID-19 has had on volunteering with nearly one in ten Australians having not returned to volunteering in the past year. This National Volunteer Week (17th – 23rd May), Volunteering Australia is urging Australians to recognise, reconnect and reimagine volunteering, as the national peak leads the way to reinvigorating volunteering.

Aon Uni 7s to take new format in 2021
Australia's premier development pathway for Women's Sevens will take a new format in 2021, with regional pools seeing a more competitive competition in its fourth instalment. Four regional rounds played out in both Queensland and New South Wales across March and April will see teams vie for pole position to qualify for the two final National tournaments in May.
