Aon’s People Risk team takes home top award for mental health programs

The Aon People Risk team is delighted to have taken home the iCare's Care and Service Excellence Awards for 2017 for their work in reducing claims costs for our clients, and fostering psychologically healthy workplaces.

“By winning this award, Aon was recognised as market leaders in improving customer performance in front of all of our industry peers,” said Kim Stapleton, Client Manager, ARS People Risk.

“We are proud to share the success of this partnership with our colleagues and clients and meet the growing demand for services to assist employers in psychological risk management.”

The awards recognise a team that has worked directly with an employer to improve their performance, and have contributed to a significant, sustainable and ongoing improvement in the employer's work health and safety performance. Aon received the award for its work with Coca-Cola Amatil on the creation and implementation of the Healthy Minds@Work program.

Healthy Minds@Work is a training program to support people leaders in identifying mental health issues among colleagues. When suffering from a mental illness, a person's ability to work, carry out daily activities and engage in satisfying relationships is severely disrupted and impaired.

With one in five adults affected by a mental health illness each year, workplaces and managers are in a unique position to influence an individual's wellbeing.

By supporting managers and supervisors to recognise the early warning signs of common mental illnesses, and equip them with the skills and confidence to conduct constructive conversations, the workplace can be at the forefront of improving mental health and overall employee wellbeing.

"Throughout our partnership we have identified that psychological injury was emerging both as a safety and a workers' compensation risk for Coca-Cola Amatil," said Kim Stapleton.

"We strongly believe that safety initiatives should focus on the promotion of health and wellbeing not just the physical safety of workers."

Having now rolled out bespoke Healthy Minds@Work training sessions to more than 400 people leaders, Aon has assisted Coca-Cola Amatil in increasing awareness and understanding of common health mental illnesses, decreasing stigma across the organisation and encouraging help seeking behaviours.

"Through our partnership and the introduction of this program, Coca-Cola Amatil has further improved injury management and safety, and become a leader in this space," said Esther Ekkelenkamp.
