Tianjin China Explosions: Aon Deploys Global Claims Teams to Assist in Recovery

On Wednesday, August 12, 2015 a series of explosions rocked a container storage station at the Port of Tianjin, China, located in the Binhai New Area. According to initial reports, casualties numbered in the hundreds, including more than one hundred fatalities. Over the weekend of August 15-16, additional explosions occurred, affecting recovery activities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the many families who suffered great losses as a result of these unprecedented and catastrophic events.

The Emergency Response Team of Aon-COFCO, China's first licensed international insurance and reinsurance company, together with Aon's global Claim Preparation, Advocacy and Valuation (CPAV) team, are deployed in a coordinated effort to serve the needs of domestic and multinational clients impacted by the events. The team can assist clients in the following ways:

  • On-site inspection and mitigation services
  • Property and business interruption claims assessment and preparation
  • Environmental, cargo, and marine claims advocacy
  • Liability claims consulting

Account specialists from Aon-COFCO in China are in the process of contacting all local clients, as well as local Chinese operations of our multinational offshore parent clients. In addition, Aon-COFCO are contacting Account Executives at Aon Coordinating Offices level to ensure a centralized, consolidated approach to assisting our global clients and coordinate on multinational program coverage and claims issues.

Aon is dedicated to supporting clients who were impacted by these events. This Aon Situation Room site contains practical information and guidance for those impacted, or who seek additional information on the catastrophe. The site also includes contact information for key Aon contacts. We will update this site as new information and resources become available or are developed.
