Aon announces NZ M&A and Transaction Solutions leader

Sydney, 12 August, 2019 – Aon (NYSE:AON), the leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions, has appointed Jonty Vavasour as Executive Director, M&A and Transaction Solutions in New Zealand.

With a dedicated team of more than 200 specialists in 22 key financial centres globally, Aon’s M&A and Transaction Solutions has an unrivalled depth of ability to provide support across the full range of risk and people issues – from transaction risks to due diligence and post-merger integration.

Mr. Vavasour will be responsible for further building Aon’s M&A and transaction liability offering in New Zealand, bringing the breadth and depth of Aon’s global offering into the market, and establishing a strong local team.

Geoff Blampied, CEO of Aon New Zealand, said “We are excited to welcome Jonty to the team. He is a seasoned M&A practitioner and leader with an exceptional track record. This is another example of Aon’s continued investment in bringing innovative solutions to our clients. We look forward to continuing to support our clients in their strategic M&A activities by structuring innovative insurance solutions to support their deals.”

Aon’s recent Asia-Pacific M&A and Transaction Solutions Risk in Review 2019 report, produced jointly with Mergermarket, examines deal activity in the region and found that the M&A market in Australia and New Zealand is undergoing rapid change. Last year, M&A activity increased in Australia and New Zealand to 754 deals worth $96B from 731 deals worth $88B in 2017.

Mr Blampied said, “Aon’s APAC Risk in Review report revealed a growing number of deals utilising Warranty & Indemnity insurance.  The value of advice from trusted experts to help manage the evolving M&A risk landscape is rising. Jonty’s appointment is proof of our commitment to providing our clients with the very best advisors in the market.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Vavasour said, “There is significant growth potential for our service offer in New Zealand. As a leader in M&A risk management and transaction liability insurance, Aon’s M&A and Transaction Solutions team helps clients understand the risks presented by M&A deals and how best to mitigate those risks effectively and cost efficiently in order to maximise deal success. I am looking forward to working with the global Aon M&A team to create bespoke solutions for our clients in the region.”

Mr. Vavasour has spent the past decade in roles that have seen him work across Australia, London and Hong Kong. He joins Aon from Bupa, where he led the legal team across Asia, responsible for the insurance and healthcare business across multiple regions. In his prior role at Bupa in London as Head of Legal M&A, Jonty led various cross border M&A transactions and advised Bupa on how best to structure transaction liability solutions to support its M&A deals. Prior to joining Bupa, Mr. Vavasour was an M&A lawyer at White & Case in London, Minter Ellison in Melbourne and Simpson Grierson in Wellington.

Mr. Vavasour will be based in Aon’s Auckland office. He starts his new role on 12 August.
