AI Fireside Chat and Panel Discussion – Aon Webinar

On May 31, 2023, Aon hosted a live webinar featuring United States Congressman Bill Foster, Physics PhD and immediate past chair of the House Financial Services Committee Task Force on AI. The webinar focused on use cases for artificial intelligence (AI), the potential risks and benefits of AI and the ways governments may respond to wide-spread AI deployment.

Aon’s AI Fireside Chat and Panel Discussion sought to clarify some of the complexities of AI by discussing these key themes:

  • Policy making / role of the government / public and private sector collaboration
  • Recognizing opportunities and risks between tangible and intangible assets
  • Use cases of AI, including principles and guidelines that make a good AI use case
  • AI and human capital
  • Safety practice tips / AI strategy / Responsible AI
  • Potential future risks

This discussion enables business leaders to make better decisions by providing an outline of the foundational principles behind AI, its current and future capabilities and the associated risks.

The webinar is the first in a series dedicated to exploring and better understanding the business risks of new technologies.


Agenda

The event featured a fireside chat on the role of the government in the regulation of AI followed by a panel discussion with leading technology companies and Aon professionals on applications of AI and their implications for human capital and risk management.

Opening remarks were provided by Eric Boyum, Managing Director and Global Practice Leader, Aon Risk, and Joe Martinez, Chief Security Officer, Aon.


AI Fireside Chat

In the first part of the event, moderator, Kevin Kalinich, Intangible Assets Global Collaboration Leader, Aon, led a conversation with United States Congressman Bill Foster, Physics PhD and immediate past chair of the House Financial Services Committee Task Force on AI, and Andi Peng, Advisory Board of Yale School of Global Affairs and former White House Office of Science and Technology. The discussion focused on the role of the government in balancing the opportunities and challenges of AI to ensure a safe and equitable implementation of applications.


AI Panel Discussion

In second part of the event, Eric Boyum moderated a panel of AI professionals discussing their insights into the event’s themes. The panel included:
