Samantha McConnell appointed as Independent Director to Aon Ireland MasterTrust DAC

McConnell will enhance the work of the Board in offering excellence in governance and operational oversight of the Aon Ireland Master Trust

Dublin, 26 August 2022Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today announced that Samantha McConnell has been appointed as an Independent Director to the Aon Ireland MasterTrust DAC Board.

With 25 years’ experience in the investment industry in Ireland, as well as over 14 years’ experience as Chief Information Officer for a MiFID regulated entity, McConnell’s appointment will enhance the work of the Board in offering governance and operational oversight of the Aon Ireland Master Trust, a professionally-managed, multi-employer trust-based pension scheme, which harnesses Aon's expertise in Defined Contribution schemes within Ireland and around the world.

As the Irish pension and retirement landscape evolves, many employers and trustees are today choosing to transition from their ‘own trust’ scheme to a Master Trust. A Master Trust can help employers to better manage their scheme performance and governance while supporting them to fulfil rapidly emerging monitoring and reporting requirements.

McConnell’s appointment to the MasterTrust DAC will add to Aon’s expertise and decision-making in the pension and investment sector, helping to ensure that the Aon Master Trust continues to be best positioned to unlock value and capital for clients. McConnell joins existing Board members; Rachael Ingle, Head of Wealth EMEA, John Cremin, Aon senior consultant and Eamon Brady, an independent trustee on the board.

Commenting on the appointment, Rachael Ingle, Head of Aon Ireland and Head of Wealth, EMEA and fellow member of the Trustee Board said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Samantha McConnell as a fellow member of The Aon Master Trustee DAC Board. This is a critical time in the transformation of Irish pension provision, with regulatory change, demographic shifts and an uncertain economic outlook creating an increasingly complex retirement and investment landscape.

With her extensive experience in the investment industry in Ireland, as well as particular expertise in the areas of project management, change management, business leadership and directorship, I’m confident that Samantha will play a critical role in enhancing the work of the Board as it continues to offer excellent governance and oversight of The Aon Ireland MasterTrust, helping to reassure clients that their members will be looked after - now and into the future.”

Commenting on her appointment, Samantha McConnell said: “I am delighted to take up the role of Independent Director to the Aon Master Trustee DAC Board. It is an interesting time in the area of investments and pensions and now, more than ever, employers and trustees need better solutions to ensure their employees will be supported at the end of their working lives. I look forward to bringing my 2 insights and experience to the table, and working alongside my fellow board members, as we help steer our clients through the upcoming period of uncertainty.”

“The introduction of auto-enrolment in 2024 will also be a significant milestone and one which businesses must start preparing for.
