Aon Ireland Marks 10 Years as Principal Sponsor of the Ireland Women’s Rugby Team

  • Aon marks 10-year milestone by becoming the official broadcast sponsors of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations 2024 on RTÉ and Virgin Media Television
  • The ten-year milestone follows Aon’s announcement last year to extend its sponsorship until 2026

Dublin, March 23rd - Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, has reached a landmark ten-year milestone as principal sponsor of the Ireland Women’s Rugby Team.

Aon first joined forces with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) in 2014 when it became the first official sponsor of the women’s national team. Aon’s partnership with the IRFU has accompanied a significant period of growth for women’s rugby in Ireland, with ambitious targets for 5,000 adult players, 300 women’s and girl’s teams and 6,500 youth players set out and achieved between 2018 and 2023 under the Women in Rugby action plan.

The ten-year milestone follows Aon’s commitment in 2022 to extend its sponsorship of the Irish Women’s Rugby Team until 2026. As the Women’s Rugby Team prepare for their first Guinness Women’s Six Nations Championship under the management of new Head Coach Scott Bemand, Aon marked the 10-year milestone by announcing further sponsorship around the Championship.

The Guinness Women’s Six Nations kicks off on March 23rd, with 15 matches broadcast across RTÉ and Virgin Media Television. Aon announced today that it is to be the official broadcast sponsor of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations 2024 on RTÉ and Virgin Media Television, with a focus on helping to enhance the visibility and engagement in the Championship and more broadly in women’s rugby.

Speaking today, Rachael Ingle, CEO of Aon Ireland said: “At Aon, we take tremendous pride in being the principal sponsor of the Ireland Women’s Rugby Team since 2014. It’s been a privilege to support the progress and success of the team for the past 10 years and to be part of a journey that has inspired increased participation in the women’s game across the country. We are dedicated to supporting the continued growth of the team into the future, and we share the same aim as the IRFU in increasing female participation in the sport and developing a vibrant, thriving community of women’s rugby in Ireland. As the team prepare to take to the pitch for the 2024 Guinness Women’s Six Nations Championship, I would like to wish the players and management every success over the coming weeks. We’re all behind you and look forward to a competitive Championship.”

Commenting on the announcement, Michael Collopy, Chair of the IRFU Commercial & Marketing Committee said: "Aon has been a longstanding and incredibly valuable partner to the IRFU. As we reach a landmark ten-year milestone in our partnership together, I’d like to thank CEO Rachael Ingle and all the team at Aon for their work in supporting the success of the Ireland Women’s Rugby Team and helping to drive the growth of the women’s game in Ireland. We’re delighted that Aon is continuing its commitment to supporting the Ireland Women’s National Team and look forward to working together in the years to come to further increase the visibility of women’s rugby and encourage more women to participate in the game.”
