What is Aon Advantage Funds?

Aon Advantage Funds LLC (AAF) is an alternative asset manager affiliated with Aon plc (Aon). AAF invests in growth-stage companies with differentiated intellectual property, sustainable competitive advantage, and saleable collateral. AAF seeks to provide minimally dilutive capital to businesses within technology, healthcare, and other high-growth industries. In fulfilling its responsibilities to identify, evaluate, and execute investments on behalf of its investors, AAF leverages the resources of the broader Aon organization to assist with investment research, fund administration and operations.

AAF, through the investment vehicles that it manages, is changing the way innovation-led companies access capital by providing debt facilities that include intangible assets as a source of collateral.

AAF’s strategy focuses on directly originating 1st lien senior secured term loans and other structured solutions with minimally dilutive capital seeking to generate current income for investors, often with a warrant component offering the potential for additional upside.

From a sourcing perspective, AAF targets and coordinates outreach to innovation-rich businesses in technology and healthcare industry verticals by using data driven direct outreach, its network of bankers, brokers and sponsors and a diverse technology stack. The AAF Team seeks to underwrite companies rich with intangible assets based on the competitive moats protecting their innovation and the assessment of the opportunity relative to the broader IP landscape that competes with the target portfolio company.

The AAF Team has decades of combined experience underwriting and structuring complex credit transactions and managing billions in capital with top-tier credit firms.

AAF applies a rigorous approach to underwriting each borrowers’ cash flows, hard assets, and intellectual property (IP). The team engages in private equity-style due diligence on the company and business model. The intellectual property diligence includes legal and analytical analysis around both patents and trade secrets to verify the competitive moat around the business.

The AAF team leverages its structuring experience as it seeks to manage risk through a tailored loan structure with equity upside and covenant packages, as well as identified exit strategies.
