Aon’s Environmental Sustainability

Aon is committed to supporting the transition to a net-zero economy and strengthening resilience in a changing climate by reducing the environmental impact of our own operations.

Aon is committed to supporting the transition to a net-zero economy and strengthening resilience in a changing climate by reducing the environmental impact of our own operations and empowering our colleagues and partners to take action.

Our approach to environmental sustainability focuses on:

  • Reducing our operational environmental footprint through decarbonization, energy efficiency and responsible resource use across our global offices.
  • Advancing progress toward net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our own operations by 2030, supported by transparent reporting, governance frameworks and continuous improvement.
  • Embedding sustainability into how we operate through responsible procurement practices and enterprise best practices.
  • Engaging colleagues and partners through education, collaboration and volunteer initiatives that support environmental protection, community wellbeing and climate resilience.

Environmental Reporting, Transparency and Assurance

In 2025, Aon drove meaningful progress toward minimizing our impact on the environment and achieving a more sustainable future. We publish our progress on climate topics through an annual report to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change Report. In 2025, Aon received a B in the report, indicating Aon’s progress toward taking coordinated action on environmental issues. Aon also obtained limited assurance of our global Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, reflecting our commitment to robust, high-quality data as a foundation for transparency and informed decision-making.

At Aon, we are passionate about managing sustainability and proud of the steps we’ve taken in recent years to reduce our operational environmental impact through facilities efficiencies and other targeted organic reduction levers, all while advising our clients as they work to achieve their own environmental goals.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have set ambitious targets, including a commitment to achieving net-zero by 2030 for Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions alongside our efforts with our colleagues, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders to further reduce our shared impact on the environment. We also regularly evaluate the latest market developments and scientific insights to ensure our goals, practices and priorities reflect the evolving sustainability landscape and support our ability to drive meaningful progress.

These efforts are aligned with our Environmental Policy, which reinforces our pledge to pursue sustainable business solutions and provides a global framework and controls for responsible operations. As part of this process, Aon has completed a physical and transition climate risk analysis, in which we examined short-, medium- and long-term physical and transition risks based on the impacts to our business, the effects it has on key stakeholder groups and adaptation and mitigation measures we are taking across policy, market, reputation and technology areas. For additional information, please see Aon’s Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) disclosure.

Our Path to Net Zero

Aon advances renewable energy adoption through a global strategy that prioritizes direct procurement where possible and active engagement where it is not. In markets where companies can select their electricity supplier, Aon works directly with energy providers to secure renewable electricity contracts. In locations supplied through landlords or shared buildings, Aon engages property partners through its Green Leasing program to encourage renewable energy purchasing and improve building level energy performance.

Complementing this approach, Aon tracks energy use and emissions across its real estate portfolio to identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve efficiency. Operational initiatives — led in partnership with local teams — focus on minimizing energy waste, optimizing building systems, and embedding energy awareness into day-to-day decision making. Together, these efforts can support meaningful reductions in electricity use and emissions while reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility for environmental performance.

In 2025 we made progress toward our net zero by 2030 target, reducing Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 9% from 2024, and increasing the percentage of our total energy consumption from renewable sources to 11.5%.

We recognize the critical role our suppliers play in efforts to manage our Scope 3 emissions. Our Responsible Sourcing Program led by our Supplier and Sustainable Impact team partners with suppliers whose capabilities support our strategic initiatives, long-term growth priorities and align with our climate goals.

As part of our Responsible Sourcing Program, we engage suppliers to understand their environmental practices, encourage measurement and reduction of their own emissions, and assess their sustainability commitments during sourcing decisions. This includes incorporating environmental criteria into evaluations, reviewing third‑party CS commitments, and favoring partners whose strategies align with our expectations for responsible business conduct.

For more information about supplier engagement, please see our Supplier Code of Business Conduct | Aon.

Our Offices

Our Global Real Estate strategy focuses on providing colleagues with high quality, agile workspaces that support collaboration, flexibility and client service. In many locations, we have consolidated our footprint into single offices in alignment with our Aon United strategy, enabling purpose-driven decisions around real estate and travel. In 2025 alone, Aon's Corporate Real Estate team consolidated our global the Aon and+ NFP footprint by over 600,000 square feet, a reduction of greater than 7% of the total real estate portfolio. By investing in virtual technology and flexible ways of working — whether remote, in the office, at a client site or a combination — we prioritize efficiency in connecting our global firm while supporting progress toward our net-zero ambitions and helping reduce travel related emissions.

Aon continues to advance its global renewable energy strategy and has undertaken hundreds of facilities optimization projects over the past several years. Initiatives included upgrades to LED lighting, utility capacity optimization and upgrading of heating and cooling systems.

In parallel, Aon continues to advance a portfolio‑wide approach centered on environmental and social responsibility, investing in global standards, certifications and partnerships that support more sustainable buildings and operations. Key initiatives include:

  • LEED Certifications: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a globally recognized green building certification program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. More than half of Aon’s total real estate square footage is classified as LEED Platinum or Gold in North America. In 2025, our offices in Dublin achieved and Toronto, Calgary and San Francisco maintained LEED Platinum designations.
  • WELL Building Certification: Aon is a global bronze-level sponsor of the WELL building certification, supporting our colleagues’ wellbeing across our offices, in collaboration with the International WELL Building Institute. Our new Dublin location has achieved WELL Platinum status and we are working to achieve similar top-tier certification in Mumbai in 2026.
  • BREEAM Certifications: Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is an international standard for sustainable building design, construction and operation. Aon has multiple locations with top-tier BREEAM certification, such as Warsaw, Edinburgh and Budapest.
  • ISO Certifications: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental organization that develops and publishes global standards for products, services and systems to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. Aon has achieved ISO 14001: Environmental Management certification for its larger office buildings in India (Gurgaon, Noida, Bengaluru and Mumbai) and in Spain (Madrid, Seville, Bilbao and Barcelona). Aon UK is certified to ISO 45001, an international standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety management system.
  • IGBC: Aon’s Gurugram office in India achieved Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum Certification, a testament to our commitment to building a greener future in one of our largest and growing portfolios.

Reducing Waste Through Responsible Materials

As we expand the use of green materials in our offices, we are working with partners to improve purchased product life cycles and responsible end-of-use equipment practices. We have moved from ownership to leasing hardware through our third-party partners, which enables end-of-life recycling for printers, print cartridges and laptops. Our office products are increasingly refurbished to reduce waste. We also donate to local communities to extend the life cycle of materials and products.

We prioritize the circular use of laptops, monitors, servers and certain networking equipment, as well as responsible end-of-life management. In 2025, this approach enabled the reuse of more than 6,500 devices and the recycling of over 3,100. Together, these outcomes illustrate how our infrastructure decisions directly support Aon’s net-zero target.

In the U.S., Aon has donated extensively to the Chicago Furniture Bank. Hundreds of items such as filing cabinets, office chairs and tables have been redeployed through various channels to support those in need. Items such as filing cabinets will have new life as dressers for storing clothing. Local food banks also use our furniture to provide extra storage capacity for food distribution. Additionally, Aon has donated used refrigerators to the Lake County Food Bank to be reused.

Our management of recyclables extends beyond IT equipment and furniture to even the smallest office items which are often overlooked such as reducing disposable cups and utensils encouraging reusable options, providing accessible water stations and supplying utensils made of recycled materials.

Our Colleagues in Action

Aon colleagues play an integral role in advancing our environmental sustainability efforts and we continued our education efforts in 2025 to help colleagues learn more about environmental impacts and how our firm, our colleagues and our clients are making a difference.

Driving Energy Efficiency Through Everyday Actions

Aon collaborates closely with JLL, a leading global professional services firm specializing in commercial real estate and investment management, on initiatives that leverage data analytics to identify and implement energy-saving opportunities through optimization and targeted investments.

The Good Catch program encourages practical, day-to-day actions to reduce energy use across Aon’s workplaces, from turning off lights in unoccupied meeting rooms to optimizing server room set points or adjusting blinds to mitigate solar gain and reduce air conditioning usage. To maintain ongoing engagement across Facilities Management and local teams, we motivate participants with annual cash prize incentives.

In 2025, global electricity consumption across Aon decreased by 21% compared to 2024. 504 catches were reported in 2025 in total, the sites with the highest participation in the Good Catch program outperformed the global Aon average.

  • Impact Story — Restoring Mexico City’s ‘Floating Islands’

In Mexico, Aon colleagues from across the firm came together to restore a chinampa — an ancient agricultural system of “floating islands” built on shallow lakebeds — while supporting local producers and promoting sustainable practices.

Mexico City stands on the remnants of the former Lake Texcoco, where the Aztecs built their capital, Tenochtitlán, in the 14th century. The original Aztec city was based on the chinampa system — artificial islands constructed from layers of lake sediment, vegetation and wooden stakes that enabled intensive, sustainable agriculture and underpinned the city’s urban expansion.

Chinampas also play a crucial ecological role, acting as natural water filters, promoting biodiversity and preventing soil erosion. Today, the chinampas are a living testament to this pre-Hispanic heritage, hosting a unique ecosystem that includes a rich variety of plants and animals like the axolotl.

As part of a global environmental and social volunteer initiative, Aon Mexico partnered with Pronatura México to regenerate ecosystems in Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Mexico’s most important wetlands. The effort focused on preserving biodiversity, cultural heritage and climate resilience through agroecological practices.

By the end of the project, the team of 36 volunteers had completed over 144 hours of community work, restoring nearly an acre of chinampas in what was seen as a significant step towards building a greener future for Mexico.

During the “Climate-Adapted Chinampas” volunteer day, colleagues engaged in activities including:

    • Clearing and preparing cultivation beds for maize and squash using traditional techniques.
    • Learning about local biodiversity and the cultural significance of chinampas through guided canal tours.
    • Sourcing food from local women and engaging young environmental professionals as activity leaders.
    • Offsetting transportation emissions via certified carbon credits through Pronatura’s AcelerA0 program.

This initiative demonstrates Aon’s commitment to sustainability and engagement — protecting key ecosystems, strengthening community livelihoods and advancing climate resilience in Mexico City’s iconic wetlands.

  • Impact Story — Aon Japan’s Go! Blue Works for Cleaner Oceans

Inspired by a local family's efforts to clean up ocean plastic waste on Okinoerabu Island in Japan, Aon’s CEO of Japan Jake Yamamoto launched the Go! Blue campaign in 2019 to promote ocean conservation.

Through the initiative, our colleagues in Japan take part in various conservation activities, including eco-friendly product promotion, educational collaborations, colleague engagement activities and a children's Trash Art Contest — now in its fifth year.

The campaign also continued its partnerships with external organizations, including the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation, and further strengthened its collaborations with several universities beyond Sophia University — in addition to its existing partnership with the Japan Federation of Catholic Schools.

In addition, the campaign attracted interest from members of the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, leading to participation from countries such as Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

In addition to these initiatives, this year Aon colleagues in Japan participated in the quarterly Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) exercises. Over the three-year period beginning in 2025, all colleagues in Japan are encouraged to take part in these exercises as part of a phased approach. Through this initiative, colleagues across Japan are committed to deepening their understanding of the SDGs and contributing to society under the Go! Blue initiative.

And, in August 2025, as part of Aon Japan’s Family Day, Horiba, one of Aon’s manufacturing clients, hosted a session on microplastics. Through games and quizzes, children increased their awareness about this environmental issue.

In this way, our colleagues also participate in more Go! Blue-organized beach clean-ups and workshops.

  • Impact Story — Park Rejuvenation Project in India

Aon’s global commitment to sustainability helped inspire a park and pond rejuvenation project in Faridabad Agwanpur, south-east of the Indian capital city, Delhi.

Working with the Anurag Foundation, Aon helped transform a neglected pond into a clean, thriving body of water, providing fresh water and a healthier environment for the local villagers. The project also involved developing a green area around the pond, offering the community a beautiful and peaceful space to walk, relax and connect with nature. The new park and pond have revitalized the area as well as promoted wellbeing and environmental stewardship.
